French Quarter Task Force New Orleans Mobile App!
This is an new phone and mobile app for reporting crimes to (millionaire real estate and former garbage company magnate) Sidney Torres IV’s French Quarter Polaris Patrols in all terrain vehicles and the New Orleans Police Department. Crimes in the French Quarter are the only ones that can be reported through the app. If you are a block on the other side of Esplanade Avenue into the Marigny, forget it. Torres’ own home on Esplanade Avenue was burglarized earlier this year.
That is extremely limited. I mean, the French Quarter is a big part, but a tiny part geographically, of New Orleans. The app comes with it’s own private police coverage called the ATV Polaris Patrols comprised off off-duty New Orleans Police Department cops.
The businesses on Bourbon are hiring their own grass-routes security patrol for the first seven blocks of the street to be paid by the French Quarter Business League, a organization of restaurants and bars. The league’s 14 businesses contributed $42,000 in begin the patrols. The New Orleans Convention and Visitors Bureau has ponied up matching funds. As many as five off duty NOPD officers will handle patrol duties.
With Torres’ plan, there are three patrol zones in the Vieux Carre.
