New Poll: New Orleanians Unhappy with Police
Less than half polled are satisfied with NOPD. What a huge surprise! Possibly all the cops on trial and convicted for killing, lying, maiming, etc. the last couple of years might have something to do with this result?
The survey was funded by the New Orleans Crime Coalition, who polled more than 600 people throughout New Orleans and discovered 47 percent were happy with the police force, down from 60 percent when the last poll was taken.
Around the nation, a much higher satisfaction rate above 70 percent is not unusual. Police Chief Ronal Serpas commented on the survey, saying that the poll, taken in late August 2011, came just weeks after five officers were convicted in the historic Danziger Bridge shooting debacle and cover up.
7 of 8 categories covered in the survey declined-
1. Officers’ honesty
5. Overall Competence
6. Cooperation with the Public
7. Its Work on Property Crimes
The 3rd district had a precipitous drop in citizen satisfaction, falling from 78 percent to 36 percent! That’s some deep drop!!

There was some reason for optimism. More than 72 percent said they had a pleasant one on one interaction with the police inside and outside the police station. 77 percent said they feel safe in their neighborhood, but only 42 percent felt that way outside their neighborhood.
